
Biography
Geoffrey Tootell served as executive vice president and director of research in the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Research department from 2011-2023. Tootell joined the Bank in 1989 as an economist and went on to assume roles of increasing responsibility before being promoted to director of research in 2011. As research director, Tootell oversaw economic analysis for the monetary policy deliberations of the Bank president and Board of Directors, as well as the research activity of the department – with a focus on policy-relevant research. His own economic research focused on monetary policy, with particular emphasis on the determinants of inflation and the decision-making of the FOMC. He also wrote a number of influential articles on racial patterns in mortgage lending.
